When Iron Keep asked New Torm for help, no one answered.

Who would believe a handful of trolls could besiege the fortress guarding the iron mines of Faldorn?

Led by the chieftain Rotgaal, they waged a brutal siege for weeks and, through a secret passage in the sewers, overran the keep in a single night. Rotgaal crowned himself Duke Rotgaal II, ruler of Iron Keep.

Now his war-trolls demand cruel tributes from nearby villages, those who fail to pay the Troll Toll are devoured by his court.

Ironkeep War-Trolls

The Trolls of Faldorn Forest, distant cousins of the frost Trolls of Skutagaard, are grotesque brutes twice the height of a man, with skin in hues of woodland green and dark mossy hair, perfect for blending into their shadowed woods.

Like all trolls, their ability to regenerate wounds within moments is the stuff of legend, making them far more than mere giants, they are walking sieges, capable of overwhelming entire platoons.

Ordinarily, the Faldorn Trolls would remain deep in their domain, guarding the borders of their ancient forest. Unlike ogres, they rarely gather in large warbands, preferring isolation and ambush. Yet something has changed in the heart of Faldorn.

Under the command of Duke Rotgaal II, the trolls have grown organized, armored, and disciplined, grotesque knights of rusted iron and cruelty.

Terror Bird Troll Knights

In the wild woods of Faldorn roam savage Terror Birds, predators fiercely protective of their nests and known to tear apart anyone who dares approach.

The trolls captured and broke some of these beasts, forcing them into cruel breeding to produce stronger birds with legs powerful enough to bear a troll’s weight.

Now these unwilling mounts charge into battle under armored riders wielding crude lances, a grotesque parody of human jousting.

Many birds perish beneath their riders, but the trolls simply breed more, forging steeds as brutal as their masters.

Duke Rotgaal II

Taller even than a common troll, Duke Rotgaal II, as he now styles himself, is a two-headed forest troll, a rare and fearsome mutation. Some are born this way, others regenerate a second head after decapitation through their monstrous healing.

Cunning and brutal, Rotgaal learned from his father, also named Rotgaal, how to command trolls in war. Yet while his father defended the forest and demanded tolls from trespassers and merchants, the younger Rotgaal desired more. Inspired by the organized armies of the hobgoblins, he dreamed of a fortress of his own, and the mines beneath it.

He gathered an army of grotesque troll warriors clad in iron and spikes and laid siege to the Iron Keep. What was expected to be a futile assault turned into a nightmare when his hobgoblin scouts discovered an old sewer passage wide enough for young trolls to crawl through. Once inside, they opened the drawbridge, and the giant siege troll shattered the inner gate with a single devastating strike. The massacre lasted a single night.

Now, seated upon the stolen throne, Rotgaal proclaims himself Duke Rotgaal II in honor of his forebear. His taxes are merciless, his appetite legendary, and all of Rotvar will learn what it means to have a troll upon a throne of iron.

Grubnar Ironstormr

Grubnar, second-in-command to the dreaded Duke Rotgaal II, is a monstrous troll born with four arms, a mutation spawned from a twisted surge of regenerative magic. His name is whispered with fear across the villages bordering Faldorn, used to frighten children into staying indoors when night falls.

In battle, Grubnar becomes a whirlwind of death, wielding four spiked clubs in a frenzied dance of carnage. His berserker fury ignores pain and wounds alike: a storm of iron and blood that leaves nothing standing.

After the conquest of Iron Keep, Grubnar was appointed Captain of the Iron Mines, ensuring that no intruder dares set foot within their new domain. His roar alone is enough to make miners and slaves alike drop to their knees in terror.

Morhild, Ironkeep Huldra

Among trolls, some rare females are born as Huldra: lithe, fey-like beings of haunting beauty with flowing hair and long, sinuous tails. Scholars say that in the dawn of time, all trolls were akin to Huldra: primal fey creatures born of Arba, Lady of Everything Green, goddess of trees and fruit. Only those whose bloodlines remained pure in their reverence for Arba still give birth to Huldra today.

Morhild, however, has turned her back on the forests. Forgoing illusion and charm, she has dedicated her life to steel and battle. Trained with human weapons, sword and axe alike, she now serves as one of Duke Rotgaal’s fiercest champions, clad in iron and waiting for foolish heroes to challenge her in the halls of the keep.

Those who mistake her for a damsel in distress soon discover too late the price of their arrogance.

Vaargrom, Giant Siege Troll

Deep in the black heart of Faldorn dwell trolls of unimaginable size, towering above even their kin, slow of wit but strong as mountains. These colossal beings are often tortured and starved by their smaller kin until they lose all reason, becoming beasts of pure destruction.

Vaargrom is one such creature, a living weapon reforged by Rotgaal’s court. Bearing a titanic battering ram, he serves as the Duke’s instrument of ruin.
During the assault, it was Vaargrom who crushed the defenders on the bridge, shrugging off volleys of arrows and pikes like gnats. When the drawbridge fell, his first blow shattered the main gate in a single thunderous strike, ushering in the slaughter that crowned Rotgaal Duke of Iron Keep.

Today, Vaargrom sleeps in the fortress dungeons, awakened only when the Duke demands another siege..
